Back home, recovered from the little jetlag and the very intensive week I will give with this blog a small insight in my second half of the week in Las Vegas. If we follow the rumors, the Microsoft Management Summit 2013 in this form will most likely not exist next year, but there will be some kind of MMS 2014 community event for sure. In what form and organized by who? Time will tell.
But first look at the Wednesday, the day of the very famous 1E party, proctoring an Instructor Led Lab about Upgrading Configuration Manager 2012 to Configuration Manager 2012 SP1, following interesting sessions and meeting loads of new people. The Wednesday started with a session about the Best Practices For Runbook Authoring and Managing Orchestrator from Pete Zerger and Anders Bengtsson. Next up were fellow Enterprise Client Management MVP’s Jason Sandys and Kim Oppalfens, they presented an interesting session about Configuration Manager 2012: Data Collection. Before the proctoring session was going to start I was able to attend the session of Jeffrey Sutterland about managing MAC-OSX and Linux devices with Configuration Manager 2012 SP1. Nice to see what we are able to do with Configuration Manager 2012. News from the session was that soon there will also be support for CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, Oracle, AIX and HP-UX Operating Systems.
First thing in the morning on Thurday, after a very nice 1E party, Citrix had their session about Project Thor, on which a dedicated a series of blogs about. MDOP 3.0 was released during MMS, part of this suite is Microsoft User Experience Virtualization. Tim Crabb presented a session about how to manage and deploy it through the enterprise. Orchestrator and Configuration Manager are better together, this was shown by Microsoft IT during their session about How Microsoft IT Upgrades System Center Configuration Manager 2012 Hierarchy with System Center Orchestrator Automation. Some really cool runbooks were created to support the flexibility that comes with an environment of Microsoft, because they “eat their own dog food” and are the biggest TAP customer of their self. 😉
Yeah the thurday was a busy day, before going to a realy nice diner on top of THEHotel, invited by Coretech and the closing party, two more sessions needed to be attended. Deploying and Managing Windows 8 with Configuration Manager 2012 SP1 and a really cool session by Greg Ramsey and Chad Till about Compliance Settings and Control End–User Installed Software.
Friday was a day with only two session slots, the last one was where Kim and Jason had their session about Configuration Manager … Actually, alias the State of the Union 😉 A nice session about some interesting subjects.
Overall the Mircosoft Management Summit 2013 was again a very good community event, where some really good (less marketing) sessions could be attended. Hopefully next year it will even better, with or without the reboot…
